A crime against humanity is unfolding in the Caucasus. Since last December, Azerbaijan has cut off the only corridor between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). Over the past eight months, around 120,000 civilians, including 30,000 children, have been trapped, lacking access to food, energy, and medicine. A famine looms as a result.

Attempts to deliver aid via humanitarian trucks have been unsuccessful due to the blockade. Multiple authoritative voices, including the UN Secretary General, ICJ, International Red Cross, Amnesty, Human Rights Watch, a group of UN experts, and various governments, have called for the lifting of this blockade. Despite these pleas, the Azeri government continues to defy international law. This is a deliberate attempt to erase the Armenian population from Artsakh. Genocide Watch, the IAGS, and the former ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo, together have warned that “the conditions Azerbaijan has imposed on Artsakh amount to genocide”. The Azeri regime’s phobia towards Armenians has already led to the destruction of Armenian cultural identity in regions which had a historical Armenian presence.
