ANC-UK wishes you a Happy New Year and a Merry Christmas!

Շնորհավոր նոր տարի և Սուրբ Ծնունդ!

We say farewell to 2025 – Highlights of the Year

It has been a very busy year for Armenian National Committee UK. With the support of parliamentarians and our community followers, we have been able to raise issues that are vital for the survival of the Armenian statehood. These are Armenian Genocide recognition, right of return of the Armenian population to Artsakh, security of Armenian borders, the aggressive rhetoric of Azerbaijan and the concerns for the democracy and internal stability of Armenia.

A Landmark Beginning: ANC-UK’s First Fundraising Gala Dinner

  • We kicked off the year in style with ANC-UK’s first Fundraising Gala Dinner, held in the magnificent Nash Room at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall.Esteemed guests, parliamentarians, Lords, MPs, and other dignitaries attended to hear about the ANC UK advocacy and achievements. We had excellent entertainment and substantial funds were raised for our activities. Awards were given to individuals who had helped further our cause and assisted our advocacy efforts.

Campaigning for the Right of Return for the Armenians of Artsakh

  • We have advocated for the right of return of Armenians from Artsakh to their ancestral homeland.

Inter-Parliamentary Engagement on Nagorno-Karabakh

  • A delegation from the Swiss Peace Initiative for Nagorno-Karabakh, led by Erich Vontobel, Committee Co-President, held a meeting with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Armenia, together with John Eibner, President of Christian Solidarity International, on October 29.

Exposing the Injustice of Illegal Trials in Baku and lobbying for Armenian Prisoners freedom

  • We have exposed the injustice of the sham trials of Armenians held illegally in Baku.

Defending the Armenian Quarter: The Cows’ Garden Dispute in Jerusalem

  • We have raised concerns regarding Cows’ Garden, a historic and strategically significant parcel of land in the Armenian Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City, currently at the centre of a major land dispute and legal battle.

Exposing Azerbaijan’s Human Rights Violations and Expansionist Rhetoric

  • We have highlighted Azerbaijan’s human rights violations, including documented incursions into the sovereign territory of Armenia. We have also raised issues concerning Azerbaijan’s aggressive rhetoric towards Syunik and their fictional idea of Western Azerbaijan which includes most of Armenia.

Raising the Alarm on the Erasure of Armenian Cultural and Religious Heritage

  • The systematic erasure of Armenian cultural and religious monuments constitutes an act of cultural genocide, and we have raised this issue consistently throughout the year.

Warning of Escalating Threats to Armenia’s Syunik Province

  • The Armenian National Committee-International issued a statement on 16 June expressing serious concern over the growing threat from Azerbaijan towards Armenia’s Syunik Province, amid heightened regional instability following the Israel–Iran conflict.

Sustained Advocacy for UK Recognition of the Armenian Genocide

  • As always, we have worked continuously advocating for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the UK government.

  • Jessica Morden MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Armenia, urged the UK Government to recognise the Armenian Genocide: “As Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Armenia, this week I joined fellow parliamentarians, the Armenian Ambassador and members of the Armenian diaspora in the UK to commemorate 110 years since the Armenian genocide of 1915. Our APPG will continue to urge the UK Government to formally recognise the Armenian genocide, and work with allies to prevent such atrocities from happening again”.An Early Day Motion (EDM) was introduced by Chris Law MP,  Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPG) for Armenia on April 24. The EDM 1141 “urges all hon. and Rt hon. Members to observe this day and to pledge to speak out against the denial of the Armenian genocide; and calls on the Government to formally recognise the Armenian genocide”.

Parliamentary advocacy remained a central pillar of our work throughout the year.

• This year to raise awareness of the Armenian Genocide, an article by Henry C. Theriault, Ph.D. Worcester State University, USA, was published in the House Magazine on April 22, 2025, leading magazine for UK MPs, Peers and Parliamentary staff. It outlined the importance of Armenian Genocide recognition and present security of Armenia.

Honouring Raphael Lemkin: Genocide Prevention at the UK Parliament

• The 125th anniversary commemoration of Raphael Lemkin, held on 4 November at the UK Parliament, was a deeply meaningful and successful event.

Hosted by the APPG for Armenia and the APPG for Genocide Prevention, and organised by the Aegis Trust and the Armenian National Committee of the UK (ANC-UK), the event brought together leading scholars, survivors, and policymakers to reflect on Lemkin’s life, legacy, and his enduring impact on international justice.

The programme featured a keynote by Dr Philippe Sands, as well as panels with Dr Suzan Kalayci, Dr Henry Theriault, Dr Zoe Norridge, Dr Becky Jinks, Dr Eric Gordy, Dr Agnes Kaposi, and Alice Nderitu, chaired by Brendan O’Hara MP.

Challenging the Risks of a One-Sided ‘Peace Agreement’

  • We have also raised concerns regarding the so-called ‘peace agreement’ negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. This has been used by Azerbaijan to gain maximum concessions from Armenia, threatening its sovereignty and security.

Political Engagement in Local Government

  • We have worked tirelessly developing relations with Ealing Council and we are happy to share that Ealing Labour included a British Armenian amongst its candidates for the 2026 Ealing Council elections, confirming selections in 20 of the borough’s 23 wards ahead of the poll on 7 May 2026.We extend our congratulations to Maxim Bagdasarian, who has been selected as the Labour councillor candidate for the Ealing Common ward in next year’s local elections.

Why Donate?

The Armenian National Committee of the United Kingdom (ANC-UK) is the largest and most influential British-Armenian political grassroots organisation.

Working in coordination with a network of offices, chapters, and supporters throughout Britain and affiliated organisations around the world, ANC-UK actively advances the concerns of the British-Armenian community on a broad range of issues.

The work achieved by ANC-UK is currently on a volunteer basis. However, we are hopeful that in the coming years through the financial support of our community, the ANC-UK chapter will have the necessary funds to open a full-time office employing an Executive Director and a part-time Administrative Assistant.

Setting up an ANC-UK office will allow for our organisation’s goals to be achieved as they have been throughout the diaspora in the United States of America, Canada, Australia and Europe.

As a grassroots organisation, we rely upon you, our community and friends for financial assistance to advance our cause. Your donations support our goal of having a full-time office, to advocate on issues important to all British-Armenians and the Armenian cause.

Thank you for your consideration of our request for your support.
